Description
Silver Pfennig (15,65 mm 0,36 g) bears a German shield with the Baden diagonal bar, above it the initials “BP”. They stand for “Bernhard” and “Pforzheim” and name the margrave Bernhard I von Baden (1364-1431) as well as the place of manufacture. In 1409, the margraves of Baden joined a coin association for the first time: Ruprecht of the Palatinate, Bishop Raban von Speyer and Margrave Bernhard of Baden committed to the silver quality of their penny coinage. The Baden coins with coat of arms, pearl ribbon and the letters “BP” were still in use in the 16th century.
